With own productions like “Stranger Things”, “Dead Girls don’t lie” or “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” Netflix succeeded in producing popular series hits. We introduce you to the best originals.
It started in 2013 with the prestige production “House of Cards”. Since then, the leading streaming provider has been producing serial beads on an assembly line. In 2018 alone, around eight billion dollars flowed into the content. The “Netflix Original” brand has long since become a seal of quality, even if not everything reaches the level of top series such as “Stranger Things” or “The Crown”. Netflix had to experience that some bills didn’t add up: Series such as “Sense8”, “The Get Down”, or “Girlboss” got sold after only one season, the Coming of Age story “Everything Sucks!
Program director Ted Sarandos then likes to point out that Netflix has so far sent 93 per cent of his original series into extra time. Conventional TV stations, on the other hand, would only continue two-thirds of their series. It remains to be seen whether this is also a sign of quality. We concentrate on the best Netflix original series of recent years: From the successful launch of “House of Cards” to foreign-language highlights such as “Narcos” or “Haus des Geldes” to series such as “Stranger Things”, which perfectly met the zeitgeist.
House of Money
Anyone who appreciates suspenseful Heist movies can’t get past this Spanish production. “La Casa de Papel”, as called in the original, is a surprisingly unpredictable and very entertaining robber and policeman series. As in all successful modern series, the focus is on characters who won’t let you go. Their fates, dreams and character weaknesses move the viewer. Among the Spanish actors, without exception, the professor (Álvaro Morte), the commissioner (Itziar Ituño) and Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) should be highlighted.
