reMarkable Paper Review
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Remarkably reMarkable

The reMarkable Tablet can do little – but what it can do, it can do well.

It is an e-ink writer tablet. Moreover, the writing surface feels like the Amazon Kindle. The tablet allows reading documents, sketching, note-taking a to transmit a paper-like writing experience. Furthermore, the disruptive gadget got developed by a Norwegian startup company of the same name. Hence, the device geared towards student, academics or any professional taking notes. The development of the ReMarkable tabled started in 2013, notably, financed in 2016 as a crowdfunding project.

ReMarkable Paper

The reMarkable tablet is currently the most consistent digital writing instrument. As previously stated, with its Amazon Kindle-like e-paper display, including pen, notes can be made almost like on paper. Hence, this convenience has its price.

While the battery lasts for quite long, we notice that the last updates caused some negativity on that part. As a matter of fact, make sure that you have at least a power bank ready.

ReMarkable Specifications

The hardware measures 18 × 26 centimetres: Significantly smaller than a DIN A4 sheet, slightly larger than an iPad, at 6.7 millimetres as thin as a conventional tablet, but lighter. It weighs only 350 grams instead of around 500 grams. The case is made of plastic, metal is found on the back. Three buttons below the display serve for operation, Micro-USB provides the power supply. The quality is neat, but not extraordinarily good. The design could use more sophistication. The surrounding edge has a small bead so that the display lies deeper.

This, in turn, is an e-ink display, as used in the e-book readers from Amazon and others. The resolution is 1872 × 1404 pixels over a diagonal of 10 inches. The screen is monochrome and unfortunately cannot be illuminated. If you compare the quality, for example, with the Amazon Kindle Oasis, there are worlds in between. The representation on the Kindle is sharper, more abundant in contrast, brighter, illuminable. Remarkable claims that its display is durable because it uses no glass.

ReMarkable Handwritten Notes

Even in the age of computers and smartphones, handwritten notes do not go out of fashion. Many users appreciate the speed and above all, the simplicity of handwritten notes. However, many laptops, tablets, and smartphones allow text writing using a stylus, but they fail to simulate the paper feeling. Lastly,  a tablet with an illuminated display and more apps is the better choice.

For example, as per storage, reMarkable includes 8GB internal storage, and 8GB of cloud storage (hosted via Google Cloud) to back up your files.

To illustrate, reMarkable converts your handwritten notes to typed text, making them easy to share. Therefore, we suggest a low price folio from AliExpress to save some money.

Conclusion

There are lots to love with reMarkable. The writing subsequently drawing experience is as close as it comes to using real paper. Consequently, we can imagine spending endless hours drawing on this tablet.

Additionally, it’s lightweight. Automatically syncs equally backs up your files, is easy to use. reMarkable works with a feather-light stylus that doesn’t need charging besides pairing.

Considering that the reMarkable tablet is an expensive investment, it is not perfect. We can see it being a productive, focussed tool for those who sketch and draw in black-and-white anyway.

All in all, it’s a remarkable convenience if you can afford it.
