The Meta Quest 2 is a virtual reality headset from Meta. The glasses were launched under the name Oculus Quest 2 as the successor to the Oculus Quest and were renamed Meta Quest 2 in October 2021 as part of Meta’s rebranding process. The multi-billion dollar acquisition of Oculus was an essential building block for Facebook in its Metaverse strategy.

Two years after its global launch, Meta Quest 2 still offers the best value for money of any VR headset currently available. The Quest platform has matured through extensive updates over the last two years. This development is evident in the user interface, the numerous features added since launch and the extensive app library.

Perfect Metaverse VR glasses?

What would a VR goggle review be without looking closely at the setup? Let it be revealed in advance: This model has the best Metaverse VR glasses. Even inexperienced users benefit from an immediate sense of achievement with the Meta Quest 2. But before you can immerse yourself in colourful and lifelike VR worlds, you must adjust the VR glasses for Metaverse apps and games to fit your eye distance and visual acuity. For this purpose, Meta installs lenses with preset spaces that you can shift manually.

Moreover, the adjustment of the lenses proves to be largely unproblematic, but you have to take the Meta Quest 2 off, again and again, to adjust the correct eye distance to find the ideal setting.

Data protection

One major criticism of the Meta Quest 2 is that you still need a Facebook account in many countries – without one, the VR glasses are practically unusable.

Since Meta reserves the right to use all data collected about you, especially outside the EU, it is simply impossible to use the glasses in compliance with the DSGVO.

Meta Quest 2 - pricing gaming

Overall, we can unreservedly recommend Meta Quest 2 in terms of its user-friendliness, the range of apps and games and its high performance. On the other hand, we are annoyed that the VR glasses open a massive door for the Meta Group regarding data protection. It completely contradicts the DSGVO.

Those who can come to terms with this will find a vast – and chargeable – range of high-quality games and apps in the excellent app store.

  1. I bought them a few months ago, and they are simply amazing (the 128 GB version).
The controllers’ batteries last forever, and I have never had to change them. I can’t say much about the glasses’ battery as I use them 95% of the time with a cable and then charge them permanently via the PC.
It’s great fun to use them and to play games with them, but I have to say that it’s better to use them with a cable because in my experience the quality decreases when you don’t use them with the PC (i.e. with a cable).
